Thank you for stopping by to peek in Aunt Janie’s Doll Trunk! Today is your day! You’ve been looking for a precious Marie for a long time and have wanted one that seemed just a little shy, maybe just a bit pensive, but mostly so sweet and dear. For too long, most examples you have seen were rather cranky and non-discriminate looking, but this one is a different story!
I know you won’t believe you have finally found just the one because I could hardly believe her either! She is the best I have ever offered in all of my 40 years in dolls! Not only that, you have some options or choices as you purchase her. Shown here, she has her original blond mohair wig in wonderful full condition with freshly done braids twisted into little buns over her ears. OR you may wish to purchase her an additional curly wig so she looks like she may have just let out her braids as shown in her other listing.
She has just woken and it is early to rise and get dressed for school but first, she must pour the cold water from the pitcher on the wash stand and bring herself to further consciousness for the day. Patting her face dry with the towel, she turns to gather her clothing and piece by piece, she puts them on. Please enjoy the little series of photos as she first dons her drawers, her petticoat and dress, then finally struggles a bit with her antique pink cotton socks and antique leather shoes. Ah! At last she’s ready and does a quick straightening before she is out the door! The furnishings and props in the photos are not included in the sale.
Her Excellent bisque head has no damage, factory flaws or repairs. She is marked with both her mold number, 101 and the size number low on her neck of 49 cm as shown In the photos. I love how she has such colorful features, with soft blue painted eyes with the highlighted reflections and accent lines around the irises. Her full, pompadour lips accented in the depth of the crevice, appear a bit pursed as she concentrates on being to school on time. Her brows are soft, single strokes of light brown that go nicely with her buttery blond locks. Having made many porcelain dolls over the years, I can tell that this beauty is early from the mold. Just look at the deep folds of her heavy eye lids and the crisp modeling of her nose and ears. Just wonderful, and exactly as the sculptor designed as he captured the essence the worker’s child from the Kammer and Reinhardt factory. These doll heads were produced on commission by the Simon Halbig firm circa 1912. As an artist, I appreciate the beautiful workmanship! This company also made many doll heads for the French market which was a very discriminating market for sure!
She came to me with a lovely and very well-made school dress in blue, white and pink floral stripe but I also found her an antique plaid dress with high bodice accented with delicate tucks and tatting. I just could not decide which I like better of either the wigs or the dresses! So now it is your turn to decide. I have listed the doll twice for the sake of seeing her in two different lights. Once Marie has found her new home, the other listing will be removed. But you may purchase her with the wig and dress of your choice from either listing with the option of adding a second of either a wig or dress or both a 2nd wig AND dress. When checking out, state your choice and email me about any 2nd choice/s and their prices.
There is little evidence that Marie has seen many hours of play. Her body is in like-new, original finish including accent lines on fingers and toes with the small exception of a chip of wood flaked off her inner left fore arm and the need for reinforcement at the thigh ball joints which have also been touched up to disguise the fact some time ago. It is in very beautiful and sturdy condition and the doll holds poses nicely as shown by the photography.
