Slices of Dendritic Agate (20 mm x 30 mm) form the main body of this necklace. Dendritic agate is a whitish-grey chalcedony with fern-like markings known as "dendrites."
The silver discs that punctuate the necklace, are made in China. They have taken sheets of sterling silver and moulded it around the shape of a perfectly round pebble. They are just under 1½" (3 cm) and 11 mm thick.
Four vintage beads of black nephrite jade (15.5 mm) add the final touches to the design.
The pendant itself is made up of tourmaline quartz and faceted smoky quartz set in separate but united cells of Sterling silver. The pendant is 1 ½ inches long (4 cm) by ¾ of an inch wide (at its widest) 2 cm) and ¼ of an inch at its narrowest point (1 cm). The pendant was made in Jaipur India, using sterling silver although not marked. But it's all very solid and the jewellers in Jaipur are noted for their amazing craftsmanship. Tourmaline or tourmilated quartz is a special quartz with black rutiles within.
A silver toggle clasp has been used because toggle clasps are easy to use and secure. My silver name label is attached at the clasp. The clasp has been
made by the Karen hill tribes, of twisted silver to create a rope design.
The necklace comes, like all my necklaces, with its own colour co-ordinated silk brocaded pouch bag, made by a Shanghai tailor.
The necklace is 18 ½ inches long (47 cm) with a 1 ¾ inch pendant drop 4.5 cm).
