This necklace is both pretty and striking. It takes full advantage of the natural array of rainbow colours in fluorite, giving a full blast of rainbow pastels.
The fluorite is a lantern shaped bead (16 mm) and ranges in colour from a sea green, to emerald, teal blue, to deep amethyst and to soft lilac.
In between each of the pairs of coloured lantern beads, a large, baroque, natural white, cultured freshwater pearl (12 mm) has been placed to create contrast and luxury.
The strands feed into two, handmade, vintage, traditional Afghan melon beads (14 mm), created using 18ct gold on silver on hardened resin, a technique learned from the craftsmen who came to Afghanistan in 330 BC with Alexander the Great.
A 14ct gold vermeil toggle clasp has been used because toggle clasps are easy to use and secure. My silver name label is attached at the clasp.
The necklaces come, like all my necklaces, with its own colour co-ordinated silk brocaded pouch bag, made by a Shanghai tailor.
The necklace is 18 inches long (45.5 cm).
