Originally I thought these antique sterling silver sugar tongs were Art Deco, based on the elegant geometric design. But having researched the silver marks, it appears that these are made by Gorham in 1885. If I have got the dating wrong, I stand to be corrected. But they are definitely sterling silver, made by Gorham.
With their detailed claws, including the fingernails, these tongs were undeniably effective in lifting sugar cubes from the sugar bowl.
The tongs measure 5” long and open to 2 ½” wide. They weigh 43 grams and are in excellent condition without scratches or dents or repairs.
