This is a very decorative pair of spiral column candlesticks, circa 1900, made in England, but unmarked silver. I have scanned both candlesticks for marks, but have not found anything. But I have tested them and they come out silver. There is also an elegant W monogram on each candlestick. If it was silver plate, there would need to be a solid silver shield to engrave the monogram. But there is none.
They are in excellent condition, with no sign of dent or wear, and they certainly have the look of fine silver candlesticks, as they stand on their square, bead designed bases. Their bobeche are also square, with a bead design.
The measure 5 ½” high and the square base measures 3 ¼” wide. The base are weighted with a felt coverning.
