Who can resist this enchanting antique, Qing Dynasty, 19th century, Chinese Butterfly with flower bells, which was once, part of a chatelaine. It is made from Chinese silver gilt, with loads of detail on each end. Attached to each wing are chains, which are suspended from the wings and support small, flower bells that actually ring. The butterfly measures 2 inches wide (5 cm) by 1 ¼ inches (3 cm) high. The chains are 3 inches long(8cm).
The butterfly is an emblem of affection, longevity and beauty.
It hangs on 3 mm amazonite beads on a necklace made up of natural amazonite cylinders (19 mm x 13 mm). The cylinders are separated by vermeil and silver wave discs.
On either side of the necklace, there are two, vintage, wonderfully embossed brass beads, inlaid with turquoise and coral. Crafted in Tibet, they are 1 ½ inches long (4 cm) and 14 mm in diameter.
A 14ct gold vermeil toggle clasp has been used because toggle clasps are easy to use and secure. My silver name label is attached at the clasp.
The necklaces come, like all my necklaces, with its own colour co-ordinated silk brocaded pouch bag, made by a Shanghai tailor.
The necklace is 17 ½ inches long (44.5 cm) with a 1 ¼ inch pendant drop (3 cm) and a further drop of 2 inches (5 cm) from the chains and bells.
