It is rare to find such a small hip or pocket flask, measuring 3 ¼” long and 2 ½” wide, and weighing 60 grams. Indeed, this small size is considered very collectable and highly sought after.
I can find no definite answer on this, but I believe this small size must have been intended for lady. It is discreet size, perfect to fit into a lady’s handbag or pocket, without anyone
detecting anything. It was made (clear marks) in Birmingham, England, dated 1905.
In perfect condition, without scratches dents or nicks, is has been designed elegantly, with a subtle curve to fit comfortably in a pocket or a hip. The surface is plain and unembellished. But the photos do show reflections,(hence colours that would not be there, appear) which I could not avoid.
It is fitted with a plain domed hallmarked hinged cover with bayonet fitting and a turn and lift hinged lid. You can see the original cork and the origian gilt lip of the flask. The flask also has a tiny, oval stand so that the flask can actually stand.
