This charming antique French silver and crystal pot could have been used to serve either a type of mustard, a jam (confiture) or a delicious relish. It would have graced an elegant dining table (as it certainly would today), around the period of 1880.
The thick crystal pot itself is supported on a triangular, highly embellished silver stand. Attached to the crystal and the rim of the lid, sits a graceful flourish of a handle. There is an elegant, embossed lid and a detailed finial.
The heavy crystal jar has wide facets. It is a good condition. The crystal has neither scratches nor nicks and sparkles once washed.
The silver, which is unmarked, but European silver in the 19th century, was often unmarked, is also in good condition. I have tested it and the silver comes out as silver but not a high grade silver. I have also cleaned the silver, but I must confess to not being a professional polisher. There is one angle of the stand that makes it slightly lean. But seen straight on, one cannot see this. Only turning it around to certain points shows a slight leaning.
The mustard pot measures 6” high. The crystal measures 2 ½” wide and the silver base is also 2 ½” wide.
