This Vintage, Sterling Silver pendant, inlaid with rose quartz, creates an artistic image, like a Joan Miro painting. It looks like syncopated jazz sounds. It has quite a sculptural impact, which was exactly the intention of the Danish jeweller Neils Erik From, the artist who crafted this pendant. It is clearly marked on the back, “From”, with the Danish silver marks “925S”. N.E. From was, and is considered to be one of the great modernist jewellers of Denmark. His years are from 1908-1986, but this piece dates from the 1960’s, when From pushed forward striking, modern designs.
The pendant is 2 ½ inches long by 2 inches high.
I have placed the pendant on a necklace of hammered sterling silver, round leaves, made by the Karen hill tribes in Thailand. Each leaf is one inch across. Karen hill tribe Fair Trade silver is nearly 98% pure silver. I mostly choose to use their silver because each piece is like a miniature bit of sculpture, individually crafted and created. I know that artisans in Northern Thailand produce this unique silversmithing in small villages, involving whole families in the process.
To set off this special pendant of silver and rose quartz, I have used flat, oval beads of natural, rose quartz (4 cm long). Rough-cut peridot nuggets (9 mm) contrast and lift the soft rose quartz colour.
A silver toggle clasp has been used because toggle clasps are easy to use and secure. My silver name label is attached at the clasp.
The necklace comes, like all my necklaces, with its own colour co-ordinated silk brocaded pouch bag, made by a Shanghai tailor.
The necklace is 17 ¾ inches long (45 cm).
