This is a charming, soft, sky blue cardigan sweater in lambswool, angora and silk hand embroidered buds and leaves. It was made in the 1960’s in the British Colony of Hong Kong. It has been partially lined with silk and has been embellished with delicate white pearl buttons. Around the neck and at the bottom, the cardigan has been ribbed. The blue and white embroidered buds have been made in a. three-dimensional way so that they stand above the lambswool at about ½ an inch. The embroidery has been generously added in the front, in the back and on the sleeves of the sweater.
It is in excellent condition, with no holes or damage of any kind. In fact, it looks as though it has never been worn.
It is labelled as Charles and Co. of Kowloon, Hong Kong, Cameron Road. This was and is today, an area where tourists would have shopped, so this cardigan was clearly for the Western market. It is also labelled size 38, which is small.
The measurements are:
Inner Sleeves: 14”
Bust:21 ½” measure across
Neck: 6 ½”
Ribbed Bottom across: 14 ½”
Over-All Height: 22”
This is a traditional creation for the Western market of the 1950’s/1960’s Hong Kong. Something ladies would have purchased when visiting the colony.
