Delicate, almost Victorian in design, this romantic necklace shimmers in candlelight. The pendant is made in Jaipur, an area of India noted for it's exquisite jewellery, jewels and gold. The silver gilt pendant is set with a large faceted pink tourmaline and crowned with almost a figure eight in rose cut diamonds. These are not major diamonds. More like chips. But enough to sparkle. The pendant is 3 inches long, 1 cm wide and 4 mm deep.
The pendant hangs on a necklace of faceted pink tourmalines, 1 cm long, followed by faceted pink garnets, 3 mm. Vintage 18 ct faceted gold from Afghanistan at in varying sizes are interspersed throughout the necklace. Sizes from 7.3 mm, 6.6 mm and 4.3 mm.
These Afghanistan gold beads were made with the traditional Afghan technique, using 18 ct gold sheet and working them over hardened resin. The result is similar to Roman gold in effect, which is not surprising since Alexander the Great conquered Afghanistan, leaving many ancient Greek skills behind, which were then incorporated by the Romans.
I have used a vermeil toggle clasp rather than gold, to keep down the price. But on request, I can easily exchange the vermeil to the gold. If interested, please inquire as to the cost. I prefer toggle clasps because they are easy to use and quite secure once on.
The necklace is 17 3/4 inches long, with a 1 1/2 inch pendant drop.
The necklace comes, like all my necklaces, with it's own silk brocaded pouch bag, made by the Shanghai tailor.
