What can I say? This is just an elegant, flattering necklace that can be worn in so many ways, either twisted or as a generous band of multi strands, each different but creating a harmonious whole.
A Chic twist of four strands of cultured freshwater silver grey Keshi (varying in size from 8mm up to 16.7 mm, and Baroque cultured pearls, 3,6 mm intersperse with cylinders,( some faceted 11mm, some smooth, 4.6 mm) of blue aquamarine and nuggets of clear aquamarine, 7 mm. Vintage hand carved rock crystal leaves , 12.4mm add extra interest. All four strands feed into handmade, etched fair trade silver beads, 16mm, by the Karen hill tribes in Thailand. Their silver is 98% pure silver and each bead is crafted like bits of mini sculptures.
The handmade silver clasp has my additional silver name and copyright label.
The necklace comes in it’s own silk brocade draw-string bag, colour coordinated with the necklace and made by a Shanghai tailor. In this case, the brocade will be an aquamarine Chinese design. All my necklaces include a label describing the details of the necklace’s elements.
Keshi pearls, sometimes known as cornflake pearls are quite special in that they are sometimes labour intensive. These are non-nucleated pearls formed as a by- product of pearl cultivation. They are solid nacre and thus often have a high degree of lustre. After the first generation of pearls are harvested, farmers return the molluscs back into the water to grow second generation pearls. But the end results are wonderfully varied, sometimes small, sometimes quite large. But their effect is almost like a ruff. And unlike round cultured pearls, they create a more contemporary, edgy, chic yet relaxed look.
The necklace is 18 1/2" long.
