This makes such a striking effect. The faceted natural lemon quartz nuggets (18mm by 23 mm), fresh with sparkle, makes a striking contrast to the polished natural carved onyx beads (14.8 mm) and discs (13.9 mm) and the natural polished onyx Bi disc (2 inches in diameter). The Bi disc is a symbol of long life and harmony, characteristics the wearer takes on.
And just to add further richness, I have used the vintage, traditional, gold plated beads (15 mm) made in Afghanistan. Using their traditional techniques of gold on hardened resin or, in this case, gold on silver on resin, the Afghani have been crafting gold for centuries. When Alexander the Great came to Afghanistan, his people brought many skills, one of which was working in gold. Like the Romans, centuries later, a yellow, 18 ct gold was used. But one of the techniques was to take sheet gold and work it onto hardened resin and then decorate it accordingly. For me, this handiwork and yellow gold colour gives the necklace warmth and character and complements the gems.
The clasp is a 14carat gold on silver toggle clasp. I prefer using toggle clasps because they are easy to use and quite secure.
The necklace comes, like all my necklaces, with it's own colour co-ordinated silk brocaded pouch bag, made by the Shanghai tailor.
The necklace is 18 inches long with a 2 inch pendant drop.
