The days when one wore such elaborate shoe buckles have changed, sadly. A cameo has been inlaid into a jet surround with tiny jet beads, and this graced a Victorian lady’s shoe. It has been clearly worn often. Some of the decorative, faceted jet beads are missing, but this does not detract from the buckle (2 ¼ inches long and 1 ¾ inches wide).
The buckle hangs on a string of white cultured, freshwater grain pearls (3 mm) and two strands of russet dyed freshwater keshi pearls (16.5 mm). There is also a strand of natural mat, onyx beads (6 mm) which echoes the black jet.
All the 4 strands feed into faceted natural golden aventurine.
The necklace is 17 inches long with a 2 ¼ inch pendant drop.
The clasp is a 14carat gold on silver toggle clasp. I prefer using toggle clasps because they are easy to use and quite secure.
The necklace comes, like all my necklaces, with it's own colour co-ordinated silk brocaded pouch bag, made by the Shanghai tailor.
