I have to admit falling in love with this charming Victorian, rural scene. A young girl sits on a porch outdoors, looking with complete concentration as she creates a garland of tiny roses. She is wearing a traditional German dress and headdress. Her black velvet bodice has an underlining of golden embroidered lace. Both her white headdress and her full sleeves have a billowing quality. And she clearly is wearing an apron over her skirt. In the background, just beyond the porch, are trees and vines, and further on her village can be seen, under a blue sky. The painting is approximately from around 1890-1910.
The round oil painting has been executed on glass and then placed in a gold round metal mount, with a black square frame, which can either be hung or stood on a table. The frame is 4 ½ inches by 4 ½ inches. The circumference of the actual painting is 2 ¾ inches across.
The condition of the painting is good and the paint itself is intact, except for a small bit of blue sky, where a bit of paint has come off.
Underneath the painting, attached onto the frame as a brass mounted label are the words Frühlingsmorgen, which means a young girl's morning.
I hope you too are as charmed by this small record of a morning's peace as I am
