Although this Silver Match safe is unmarked, as Italian silver often was in this period, it does test for silver. It is roughly dated to around 1895-1910, made by Italian silversmiths who excelled in this delicate wirework skill. The design is one of a floral nature, with a flower in the centre and leaves unfurling around it. The lid flips back or locks, and the match striking element is at the bottom. This part shows wear, so it was clearly used often.
It does have some damage in that one of the unfurled leaves is missing on one side. It is 1 ¾ inches long and 1 ¼ inches wide.
But in all my searches, I have only found one other similar Italian match safe, which makes this one rather rare. Perfect for anyone who has a match safe collection.
