Utterly feminine, this important late Victorian pin brooch must have graced a lady's dress from the Victorian era. It has quite beautifully, hand painted violets in purple and lilac hues. There is a soft, misty blend of pastels in the background, with a touch of blue sky. The flowers are framed in a slightly raised, scalloped border of gold, with a dappling of gold beyond the border. This sort of romantic floral painting on porcelain recalls Limoges porcelain.
The oval porcelain is securely set by six prongs onto a brass backing. It has a C type pin clasp. This delightful pin brooch is in good condition without scratches, chips or damage.
It is 2 ½ inches long by 1 3/3 inches wide.
