Persian Turquoise and diamond dome ring set in 14K yellow gold. The ring is not marked but tests a minimum of 14K; I believe it may actually be 15K gold. At one time the finest turquoise was mined in Persia rather than in the United States. During the 19th century, it was a prized gemstone, associated with protection, making it a popular amulet for warriors heading to battle. Because of its unique, vibrant blue color, it is associated with the sky and ocean and is thought to have the healing power of both. Natural turquoise is a porous stone. As it is a porous stone, it absorbs moisture from the air. If untreated like the stones in this ring it will oxidize and darken over time. The diamond is an old mine cut diamond approximately .05 tcw. I have not cleaned the ring for fear of damaging the turquoise. The ring is in very good vintage condition. Please review the pictures as they are part of the description.
