Victorian Carnelian Intaglio Watch Fob Pendant Necklace: the pendant was originally a watch fob for a man's pocket watch chain. With time men wore fewer pocket watches and their wives and daughters converted them to pendants. This one is a lovely rosy gold, probably pinchbeck; the intaglio is a finely carved carnelian. The carving depicts a Caesar in profile with his hair but without beard or crown - Julius or Caligula perhaps. The intaglio is likely from the early 1900s. The pendant is approximately 1 1/4 inch long, the chain is 18 inches long and hang-length is almost 22 inches. Excellent vintage condition.
