An Antique find from New England....from the estate of a multi generation fisherman's family. This fishing buoy was found hanging by the back porch, but had obviously been put to good use back in the day! Carved from a large limb or trunk, this aged yellow and black buoy had the license number is carved into the side, a chewed up black painted handle and a dried riveted leather strap on the bottom.
According to the family, this piece is over 100 years old. It measures 22 inches long and is just over 5 inches in diameter at it's widest. The leather bottom strap has cracks and is asymmetrically placed as shown in the photos. The paint has worn away from much of the buoy and the handle is chipped and the paint faded. The wood has stress cracks from age and use.
This would make a great decoration at your seaside residence!
