This is a stunning, large, art deco brooch made in Czechoslovakia circa 1920s. The finish is gilt on brass which has mellowed to a beautiful warm patina. The purple glass emerald cut stones rival amethyst in color and are securely bezel set. The stones are open back, not foiled. Apart from a bit of color loss on one of the smaller stone bezels this brooch is in great vintage condition with age appropriate wear considering its almost 90 year life! The pin back is a style commonly used in 1920s Czech brooches. Measurements are 2 3/4 inches across and 1 3/4 inches on the vertical (60mm x 44mm). Weight is 25 grams.
