Purchased at an estate sale in Los Angeles, this Modernist sterling silver 'snake' brooch (1980's) is just the thing to get attention! This is not a Scary Snake because the design is abstract, beautiful and non-literal––even with the extra 'coil' on the tail! The pattern is different from the many squiggle and scribbly Mexican designs that are frequently and commonly seen....this one is more sensuous and sinuous. And, it's quite long––3 1/4 inches from 'head' to 'tail' with a nice heft of 23 grams. The back is clearly marked TL-41, Mexico,925, the T signifying it was made in Taxco, Mexico. This brooch has a strong presence and a spirited personality and it's slinky smooth!
The polish is quite bright and there are some very minor surface scratches from wear which are negligible. All in all, a good strong design of vintage Mexican silver. The brooch will arrive in a pretty gift pouch!
Length is 3 1/4". Width at widest is 1 1/8". Weight is 23 grams.
