This wonderful book won the 2003 Caldecott Medal Award for " most distinguished American picture book for children." Fine in dj . According to an article on January 13,2004 in the New York Times : the award has only, ".occasionally been given to books that deal with non-fiction subjects. Few children's books have addressed the 911 attacks, but 'The Man Who Walked Between The Towers' concludes:"Now The Towers are gone. But in memory, as if imprinted on the sky, the towers are still there. And part of that memory is the joyful morning, August 7, 1974, when Philippe Petit walked between them in the air." This particular copy of The Man Who Walked Between The Towers was presented by the author to a girl named Sallie Included on the verso of the ffep is a signed and dated Gerstein sketch of Phillip Petite walking between the towers saying "to Sallie".
