This brass wall hanging of Flemish artist Antoon Van Dijk has a 23" diam. and is approx. 3" deep. The subject matter is one of Van Dijk's self-portraits. There is a signature above the left shoulder "A Ames" The Ames Manufacturing Co was established in Massachusetts 1774-1907. Among many other bronze and iron objects they created, they began producing brass items in 1835. The Ames family ran the company. Plaques of similar size are made of bronze and unsigned. Apparently, there were not many brass plaques were struck as few are to be found today.
