A stunning, shimmering lamé silk shawl or tablecloth dating to the 1910s or 1920s. The field is in a black silk interwoven with an ornate abstract art deco pattern in antique gold toned metallic thread. To my eye it has a Chinese inspired design. The border is a semi sheer netting with metallic thread woven through. There is a lovely hem stitch between the body of the shawl and the border. In excellent condition; no holes, fading, marks, or storage odors. When held up to the light one can see a couple of slubs in the netting (part of the weaving process, not a flaw). A wonderful vintage textile that is in strong condition: ready to be worn or used for home decoration.
