This Victorian papier mache' basket (fruit or bread tray) is beautifully done. It measures 10" in diameter and is scalloped. It is delicately painted with roses and gold scrolls. The handle is beautifully cast bronze with a grapevine decoration. The handle has darkened with age. It is heavily crazed with some flaking especially in the center. There is a repair on one edge near the handle. This does not got through, so the integrity of the handle is not an issue. Someone has attached four felt pad feet to the bottom. This piece does show lots of wear characteristic of its age and use.
