This large bowl would have been part of a bath set used in the 19th century. However, today pasta and salad bowls are often of similar size. What an original way to re-purpose such a lovely piece of pottery. The bowl has pastel colors highlighted with extensive gilding or luster. The design is oriental from the Aesthetic period of decoration. The bowl is clearly marked with the pattern name, JAPANESE, and the Glasgow pottery J. & M.P. Bell. The bowl has some wear, but no chips or cracks. It measures 15" across the top and 5" deep.
