This papier machine tea caddy is black lacquer with painted and Mother of Pearl decoration. The caddy measures 5" x 7 1/2" x 5". The lid is painted with Lily-of-the-Valley and worn gilded border decoration. The border as well as the center design has Mother of Pearl inlay. The lid is scalloped. There is a base with four triangular feet. The front has a gilded wreath. There is evidence of gilded decoration around the base, but this is very worn. The inside compartments have lids with round button handles. There is a lock, but no key. There is wear to the gilding, chips on three of the lid corners, and the hinges show repair. This is an exceptionally lovely caddy in spite of the mentioned flaws. It is not marked.
