This is an early 1800's sampler. If it is dated, I cannot make out the date. The reds and greens in the sampler are still quite vivid. The blues and pinks are so pail it is hard to decipher the words. There are several styles of alphabetic characters, upper and lower case. Each row of letters is separated with a line of various stitches. The bottom 1/3 of the sampler has quotations from Proverbs in pale blue. The top proverb appears to be Proverbs 31:6. "Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts." The only word I can make out of the bottom quotation is Proverbs. There could be a name and/or date. The sampler is in good condition apart from the fading which is not uncommon. The top left corner has some fraying and repair. It is framed under glass The sampler measures 18" x 9 1/8".
