This heavy cake plate has a transferware ivy design around the edge. The browns and greens are highlighted with gilding. There are also gilded rings around the edges and base. In the center is a monogram TMW. This leaves me to think the plate was made for an important family, probably as part of a set of dinnerware. The plate measures 12" in diameter and stands 3" tall. The bottom is marked with a maker's mark which I have yet to identify. It has a Staffordshire Belt with the pattern name, IVY BORDER and another monogram with an "S" being the prime letter. In addition it is marked John S. Bradford Dundee. I would think this is the retailer. It has 1857 which could be a lot number, pattern number, or a date. The cake plate is heavily crazed and lightly stained. There is a minor flake on the edge. No other chips or cracks. A really nice antique to display or to use.
