This is a lovely sampler in green, gold, and brown. The center has a priest holding a cross. There are two urns with flowers. The top words are in French_ "Hommage A Ma Marraine". (Marraine translates to Godmother or Godfather). The name is R. GMEVALLIER. I suspect this could be R. G. Mevallier. The border is very nice. There are no stitches missing or holes. I have shown you the back of the sampler. It has had a satin border attached at some later date. This was probably done at the time of framing. There are holes outside the border where it was attached to something much earlier. The frame is probably circa 1900. In addition, there is a document on the back. Again, this is in French. I am going to give my rough interpretation. Archdiocese of Paris Certificate of Religious Instruction for the degree of Elementary School from His Eminence Cardinal of the Archdiocese of Paris. This was given to Genet Raphael 14 October1891. I do not think the the certificate and the sampler date the same. The sampler appears to be older than the certificate. The certificate may very well have been added at the time of framing. The overall measurement is 12" x 15".
