This lovely 19th century tea caddy was made of unusual striped rosewood. This rosewood is an exotic rosewood (Madagascar). The coffin shape is called sarcophagus. It has string inlay on all the edges. There is mother-of-pearl around the key hole. No key. Brass lion pulls adorn each side. The screws holding the pulls double duty as rests for the matching lids on the two inner compartments. The four feet are brass. The bottom is covered in a grass cloth. There is evidence of the silver compartment linings. This box is in very good condition. One small age crack on a side panel of the lid. The tea caddy measure 7 3/8" x 4 3/8" x 6". The wood and its rich glow make this box very exciting.
