I have owned this unusual piece for more than 10 Years and I just realized it was a creation made by Luella Schroeder a Vermont jeweler (1918-2004). She worked at the Cranbrook Institute before opening her own shop. It is clearly Marked in fancy script initials on a rectangular plaque behind the face of the ring "LCS" and in capital letters 'STERLING'.
Handcrafted silver jewelry probably dates to the 1960's... it combines Sputnik and Brutalist design elements. The layered sterling ring reminds me of a flower? or an asteroid exploding? The front of this artist signed silver accessory is ~ 3/4 (E-W) by 1 Inch (N-S). It appears as though the 'brutalist' part of the ring may have been forged and then the "Sputnik" parts applied afterwards.... there also are more silver elements on the 'shoulders' of the ring (difficult to see in my photos).
Oh SO COOL modernist silver ring Weighs a Whopping 9.6 Grams, MEASURES a Size 5 on my 'wand' (could easily be re-sized by a silversmith or bench jeweler) and is in VERY FINE CONDITION! One of a Kind (OOAK) artist signed silver jewelry has not been cleaned ~ polished in many years and displays some old patina that gives the piece depth.
DO NOT miss the chance to add this exceptional example of Modernist ~ Brutalist ~ Sputnik style sterling jewelry to YOUR collection!
