There are not many words needed to describe this AMAZING Early work of art by Antonio Pineda (1919-2009). He was a well-respected and brilliant silversmith from Taxco, Mexico and at age 14; began his apprenticeship under William Spratling. Eight years later in 1941, he founded his own workshop.
Large Art Deco style leafy brooch has engraved veins on the graceful leaves and features a bezel set oval amethyst quartz cabochon dangling from the center. WEIGHS 23 Grams, MEASURES ~ 3 3/4 Inches Across and ~ 1 3/4 Inches Top to Bottom. It was cleaned many years ago of most of its original patina however; there are traces of old silver polish left behind. It is CLEARLY Marked on the reverse "TAXCO"and "980" for the precious silver content. It is also has Antonio Pineda's earliest (1941-1945) makers mark "AP" on the back of the amethyst cabochon pendant.
You will find it to be in VERY FINE CONDITION! There is a drop of lead? solder by the wire 'C' Clasp - I do not know if the clasp is original 'nor do I know if the pin stem is. These are the only potential flaws/repairs? done many years ago - they are not visible from the front & do not effect its wearability.
Do NOT miss out on this RARE and Dramatic piece from one of the maestros of Mexico.
