This is a WONDERFUL Example of Mid Century Modernist Silver jewelry. Abstract piece of "WEARABLE ART" is 3 Dimensional & made of Solid Silver. Unusual brooch has a very sculptural quality. Its GEOMETRIC design features small silver plaques of varying shapes - some have a smooth mirror finish & the others have a 'textured' surface. The design reminds me of a mosaic or a stone walkway (patio). In addition, there is an ATOMIC component.... silver wire tentacles with a tiny silver bead at the end. If that wasn't enough - there are 8 GENUINE Cultured Salt Water Pearls (6mm) with lovely nacre and pinkish ~ silvery hue.
C.1950 modernist silver brooch was found in Provincetown, Mass. and is as unique as Scandinavian Designer jewelry pieces from Denmark, Sweden, Finland & Norway. The reverse, showing its 'pieced' construction is just as interesting to examine. Unfortunately it is only Marked "STERLING" - no signature or hallmarks to credit the talented silversmith ~ designer... MEASURES just shy of 2 Inches E-W and a Max. of ~ 1 1/4 Inches N-S. Vintage Silver Pin WEIGHS Over 13.5 Grams and is in VERY GOOD CONDITION! NO DINGS, DENTS, REPAIRS or Excessive Wear - retains Original FULLY Functional Locking Clasp (very different with a 'cone' shape end), Pin Stem & Hinge securely mounted on back. It appears that the brooch was made with a bright rhodium finish - after more than 65 years it is still intact.
A completely different look depending upon what direction it is oriented. Would make a WONDERFUL Gift or Addition to YOUR Mid Century Modernist, Designer Signed Silver or Studio Jewelry Collection!
