Antoinette "Toni" Catanzaro (1914-2003) grew up in Buffalo, New York, where she and her sister Josephine "Jo" took a course in jewelry making during the 1950's. In 1959, the sisters opened their own shop in Buffalo called the 'House of Crafts' where they forged, hammered and created their own jewelry. In addition to their jewelry, they also sold handmade ceramics, textiles, glass & wooden items by other nationally known craftsman.
This hand forged Sterling Silver Cross has a lot of impact yet its design is simple... appears to be made from hammered silver (possibly thick wire) and if you look closely; you can still the markings made by her files. Modernist Religious pendant is not one dimensional - I hope you can see the 'arch' from my photos as well as the broadening of the silver at the top and btm. The 'arms' are rectangular & flat... a separate hand made oval loop is soldered to the reverse for a silver chain or leather thong. Her pieces have been in many exhibitions and have been awarded numerous prizes.
Highly Collectible Artist signed Cross MEASURES ~ 2 x 1 Inches and is in VERY GOOD CONDITION! ... has not been professionally buffed ~ polished & displays light scratches that would not be visible when worn. It is stamped in Capital letters on the back "Toni Catanzaro" but is not marked as to precious metal content - has been professionally tested & I GUARANTEE it to be SOLID Silver.
Would make a TERRIFIC Birthday, Confirmation, Communion, Graduation, Anniversary, Birthday, Christmas or Easter Gift for a Man or Woman (teenager) or Addition to your Silver, Religious or Signed Modernist Jewelry Collection! Truly a piece of "Wearable Art".
