My eyes popped a bit when I came across this SET of 2 Matching Pins that SCREAM 1965 -1975 Era to me. At first I thought they might have been Early Ed Levin pieces (especially since I found them near the VT/NY border) but once I turned them over I saw the Studio Mark of American designer John Lewis - a conjoined "JL".
During the late 1950's John Lewis debuted his inventive jewelry at local summer boutiques in East Gloucester, MA. He then moved to Ogunquit, ME, where he worked in a a studio for the next fourteen years. In 1972, he re-located his shop to Newbury Street in Boston where he created a variety of loopy ~ modernist sterling hand hammered pieces (necklaces, flowers) including these 2 Pins.
The larger (2 1/2 Inches Across) of the two offered here is less 3 Dimensional & the hand hammering is more pronounced. Their difference in size (Measured across from side to side where the pin hardware is mounted) is negligible. The smaller looks as though the petals are reaching more toward the sun. They are larger than similar pieces I have seen... BOTH are Marked "STERLING" and his Hallmark on the reverse.
PERFECT for gift giving... you and your daughter, sister or best friend could each wear one - or keep them both for yourself! RARE Signed Modernist Silver jewelry is in VERY FINE CONDITION! I have not cleaned ~ polished either - completely original with Fully Functional Locking Clasps, Hinges & Pin Stems. *** US 1st Class Mail Shipping with Tracking is Included ***
