This is a wonderful Hand Crafted Sterling Silver Pendant that may have come from the Middle East. COOL Vintage Pendant is designed as a HAND with 5 Fingers. Cut out of the 'palm' of the hand is a Star of David with the 2 Hebrew Letters that spell LIFE (Chai) cut out inside of it. The finger tips on either end remind me of the Dove of Peace... a motif popular in the 1960's (Woodstock).
"Hamsa" is the Hebrew symbol for the hand of protection against evil. The word "Hamsa" comes from the root word for the number five in Hebrew. The number five is considered to have special magical power to bring good luck. The number 5 is represented by the 5 fingers of an open human hand in a natural motion - an open hand to ward off an oncoming enemy. The shape of the hand is a stop sign to the devil. Hamsa it is the most popular symbol for good luck & well being in the Middle East.
Vintage silver Luck Amulet MEASURES ~ 1 1/4 x 1 1/8 Inches (including bail for a pendant chain or leather thong) and is Hefty for its size - Weighs 3.3 Grams. It is Marked "925" for Sterling Silver on the reverse and is in NICE CONDITION! ...has not been professionally polished - NO CRACKS, BREAKS, REPAIRS or Excessive Wear however; someone made a small file mark on the reverse (would not be visible when worn & mentioned only for accuracy).
Would make a TERRIFIC Gift or Addition to YOUR Vintage Sterling ~ Judaica, Religious Pendant or Middle Eastern Jewelry Collection! Perfect for a man or woman - teenager or adult.
