I was so excited when I came across this piece of SIGNED Finnish Silver jewelry by the Highly Collectible Mid Century Modern manufacturer - KALEVALA KORU (of Helsinki, Finland). Kalevala Koru (Jewelry) began in 1935 and by 1941 a company named Kalevala Koru Oy was registered. Kalevala Koru specializes in the production of historic jewelry pieces including reproductions of ancient jewelry discovered on many archaeological sites in Finland. The motifs on the Kalevala jewelry date back as far as the iron age (pre 400AD), the prosperous Viking age (800-1025) and some into the 19th century.
Designer Signed Sterling Silver Pin by Holger Lindstrom has a Viking ~ Heraldic style with a Crown motif at the top and 13 teardrop shape silver dangles that appear to be attached to a snake or serpent. Three Dimensional curved ~ arched shield shape Scandinavian jewelry MEASURES ~ 1 7/8 Inches Top to Btm. and over 1 1/4 Inches Across. It is Clearly Marked with an array of appropriate HALLMARKS on the reverse - "HGL" for Holger Lindstrom, Finnish Crown inside of a partial Heart (Finland), '813H' (precious silver), a Boat (Helsinki), 'H7' (date stamp for 1961) and two 'Runic' style letter "k" inside of a circle for Kalevala Koru. It reminds me of the historic David Andersen SAGA jewelry line.
EARLY example of Kalevalu Koru Finnish jewelry weighs 7.5 Grams and is in VERY GOOD CONDITION! Retains ORIGINAL Fully Functional Hinge, Pin Stem and "C" clasp... has not been polished in many years & displays old patina that attests to its age.
