This Vintage STERLING SILVER religious pendant may have been worn by a member of the US Navy. It is an Immaculate Conception (Miraculous) Medal however; at the very top is a Heart, Cross and the bottom part of an Anchor. I am not certain if that is supposed to represent the Navy or the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Great Looking Art Deco Era Religious Medal is an Uncommon shape (almost teardrop) and features Victorian style flourishes and a Forget Me Not or Orange Blossom Flower at the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions on the front. Sterling silver religious charm depicts the Virgin Mary with her head covered (wearing a flowing robe), arms outstretched & rays of light behind her. In raised lettering in the background is "OH MARY CONCEIVED WITHOUT SIN PRAY FOR US WHO HAVE RECOURSE TO THEE”. The date of '1830' beneath her feet is not clear. The back side of this religious collectible has 12 stars in an oval, a cross & other religious symbols - the Symbol of Jesus and Mary with the Twin Hearts as given to Saint Catherine Laboure.
C.1940 (WWII Era) Immaculate Conception Medal MEASURES Over 1 Inch N-S (excluding loop for a pendant chain) and is Clearly Marked "STERLING" and a Maker's Mark "HMH" on the reverse.
