This MATISSE demi-parure from the estate of a 90+ year old woman is a Show Stopper!!! Not only do you have incredible Modernist design but the speckled bursts of color - vibrant red, jet black, snow white, luscious gold and silver absolutely grab your attention (amazing under magnification).
Renoir -Matisse was founded in 1946 by Jerry Fels and produced what is considered to be the best quality classic mid century copper and enamel art jewelry, with fanciful shapes and lush enamels, until their closing in 1964. This particular set is known "Wingsong" (sometimes mistakenly called "Windsong") - shown on page 89 of the book “Copper Art Jewelry, A Different Lustre” (Schiffer books) by Matthew Burkholz and Linda Kaplan.
The Stylized Graceful BIRD Brooch Measures a Whopping 3 Inches Tall and a Max. of 1 7/8 Inches Wide. The matching clip style Earrings complete with Copper Wings Measure ~ 1 1/4 x 7/8 Inches. The Reverse of the Pin and one of the Earring Clips are signed “©Matisse”. You will find this AMAZING set to be in VERY GOOD CONDITION! Retains original fully functional locking clasp, hinge & pin stem and tight springy clips on earrings. Under 10 power magnification I noticed a teeny nick on both of the earrings at the very top - just beneath the edge of the wing... definitely would not be visible when worn and mentioned only for complete accuracy.
This woman's jewelry was well cared for and worn only to work. Don't miss the chance to add this Matisse Enamel demi to your Mid Century wardrobe, accessory ~ jewelry collection!
