French Marble perfume bottle or scent holder. Led by two bronze goats, a chariot of Mother of Pearl and bronze Filigree display the green glass perfume bottle in holder. The perfume bottle is actually a scent bottle used to hold smelling salts which was essential for the foul odors of everyday living a few hundred years ago.
I don't believe the green glass bottle is original to the display. Although it is a perfect fit, I believe a Opaline class bottle would have accompanied this piece when first purchased. The perfume/ scent bottle has a brass hinged top, which has a dent in it.
The mother of Pearl container was likely used to store rings or small jewelry.
All in great condition with the exception to the dent on top of the brass top.
Fine objects, such as this, would have been sold in one of the famous Palais Royal shops of Paris as a luxurious memento for a well-to-do Grand Tour traveler.
The marble base is 6 1/2 inches by 3 1/2 inches and the accessories extend beyond the marble base and a total of 8 inches long.
The perfume/ scent bottle is 2 1/2 inches tall.
These treasure from France are getting harder to find and becoming Museum pieces. Saw a similar one in the Getty last week.
I have a clear plastic stand where this piece resides on and will be happy to send that to you as well. It raised it above the others in my collection, making it more visible.
