Antique Perfume Bottle, French Palais Royal White Opaline Egg with filigree bronze mounts. The perfume bottle is inside the egg with a hinged top and tiny opaline stopper.
From France, made in 19th century, Napoleon lll era. Palais Royal white opaline glass egg with a filigree basket with leaves atop the egg.
Opaline glass first appeared in France during the Empire period and reached its peak of popularity during the reign of Napoleon III.
Fine objects, such as this, would have been sold in one of the famous Palais Royal shops of Paris as a luxurious memento for a well-to-do Grand Tour traveler.
The opaline egg casket is in very good condition. It has a small amount of patina in a few spots but I say this to be exactly right on the description. Does not distract from The Palais Royal egg casket. It is a wonderful example of French opaline art glass.
The perfume bottle egg stands 5 1/2 inches by 3 1/2 inches wide. The egg itself is 3 1/2 inches tall without the filigree basket and legs.
