Victorian purse made of authentic Mother of Pearl. This would make an excellent Doll purse although it was a coin purse for a woman. In very good condition, this little purse is made of a metal hinge, leather, and Mother of Pearl. The small purse dates back to 1850-1880 when many accessories were made out of natural materials, such as tortoise shell, shells and clam shells. True Mother of Pearl.
This small purse was probably used for coins or calling cards. It has separate compartments on the inside and is still intact. The Mother of Pearl is real MOP and has a thick piece of the shell on each side of the coin purse.
From the mid to late 1800's, this was typical of small purses. It has two small chips on the corners of the purse, you can see this in the pictures. Overall in very good condition. The Mother of Pearl is heavy and colorful. There is some age wear to the purse, but still a prize for the collector of such items. It is 3 1/4" wide and 2 1/4" tall.
