Sterling Silver top with repose decoration, this is actually a Victorian Era Salts Bottle for Smelling Salts. It has a larger hole in the opening, than a perfume bottle would. Still with its glass plug, this piece is in very good condition with no chips or cracks. Gold paint is used on the etching designed on the cylinder shaped bottle. Marked Sterling.
The scent bottle is 3 inches tall and 3/4 inches wide. The hinge and top work well. The sterling silver top has a few small dents. (one on the top and two small ones on the side cap.) The glass plug is original and a perfect fit. Very clean and clear which is not the norm for a salts bottle. Likely never was used. The ammonia salts would dull glass and make it foggy. But there is none of that on this piece. Like crystal glass.
