Antique Wax Seal made of French Enamel called Champleve. Champleve enameled items were made between 1850-1885. Multi colored enamel in various designs. There is no loss of the enamel. It is 2 1/2 inches long and at the top, it is 3/4 inch wide. The initials look like HPJ. In excellent antique condition. Writing was certainly an art form back in the early days, with many accessories like this wax seal, to formalize your communications. Warm wax melted would seal a papered communication with the initial of the sender in the wax. Some had pictures or family shield or seal rather than initial. Clearly this has initials.
