Antique Frame of Micro mosaic tiles. All the tiles are still in place in this gorgeous micro mosaic frame. The front of the picture is a plastic but keeps the picture in place. I love the picture as it reminds me of the Blessed Mother, Madonna and Son. However, this was a picture used during the depression to raise awareness to fatherless mothers, as so many husbands split during the depression because they could not provide for their families. The picture itself is actually pre 1900 but used in this campaign.
But of course it this the micro mosaic frame that is the prize here. Made around 1900 in Italy, this was used as a frame in the shape of a mirror. I'm sure a mirror could be cut for it as well, but from the back you can see it is made to be a frame. One of the tabs is broken off in the back and replaced with a piece of tape. It has graced my wall for 25 years! Dusted but other than that never used other to be admired.
I love this pattern of micro mosaics. This work with the MICRO mini tiles is no longer done. Mosaic tiles are still used this way but they are much larger now. No comparison. Exquisite treasure from Yesteryear.
It is 9 inches tall by 3 1/2 inches at the widest part of the frame. It also has a ring so is great for displaying on the wall!
