Antique Frame of Micro mosaic tiles. All the tiles are still in place in this gorgeous micro mosaic frame. The front of the picture is a thin piece of plastic and made to keep the picture in place. The picture reminds us of the Blessed Mother, Madonna and Baby Jesus. However, this was actually a picture used during the depression to raise awareness to fatherless children, and the mothers trying desperately to feed their children. No social services then. Many husbands split during the depression because they could not provide for their families. The picture itself is actually pre 1900 but used in this campaign in early 1930's.
Of course, the micro mosaic frame is the prize here. Made around 1900 in Italy, this was used as a frame as you can see on the back. Hand mirrors were also made this way I'm sure a mirror could be cut for it as well, but from the back you can see it is made to be a frame. One of the tabs is broken off in the back and replaced with a piece of tape. It has graced my wall for 25 years! Dusted but other than that never used other than to be admired.
An intrigrate pattern of micro mosaics in flowers. This work is with the micro mini tiles which are no longer made to this detail. Mosaic tiles today are much large. No comparison. An exquisite treasure from Yesteryear.
It is 9 inches tall by 3 1/2 inches at the widest part of the frame. It also has a ring so is it is great for displaying on the wall.
