This is a modern sculpture made of a blue color soapstone of a man in a pose…yoga perhaps! He seems to be on one knee. Abstract, it fits well with all the new / old Mid-century look. Not too big or too small, at 7 1/2 inches tall by 2 1/2 inches wide at the widest point. . I love the minimalist look of the Mid Modern Era and this sculpture is perfect for that type of decor. Modern and abstract. Vintage, I've had it for 25 years and it wasn't new when I purchased it. Nice blue color with some brown in the soapstone.
In the mid 1950's the Ashona people of Zimbawae and S. Zambia revived a dormant 2000 year old stone sculpting tradition. This looks like the work of Moffat Chitaunhike, a 3rd generation stone sculptor. Born in 1967 in Gurave Zimbawae, his works are coveted by collectors and museums alike. It is not signed so I can't be certain the rarity or value or if it is his design or work. Sure does resemble his work.
