In excellent condition is this chrome and enamel, small compact that holds Brown Eyeshadow. From the 20's or 30s. Very clean and no problems or wear with the enamel red and black paint. Would make a great compact for your favorite Bebe Doll!
It is so cute! It reminds me of a old 45 Record. It is marked and still has the original label on the bottom. It is marked on the top "d and r" which stand for Daggett and Ramsdell" Made in USA. The paper label says Eye Shadow Brown. Very Deco look to it. It is small, only 1 1/2 across so would make a great doll accessory.
Daggett and Ramsdell have been a cosmetic company for over 120 years. It has an interesting history. Started in about 1889 Daggett and Ramsdell were pharmacist's that developed a lasting cold cream called "Perfect". They did not remain partners for long, but were very successful and kept the name that made them famous in the cosmetic world. Daggett and his son went off to develop more and new cosmetics. But neither had an interest in keeping the business. They sold out to Standard Oil Co. in 1929, six months before the big crash market. Later, D & R was introduced and partnered w/ making the sole perfume and cosmetics for Elsa Schiapparelli. The company has been bought and sold many times, and still remains the same name today!
The metal and chrome tins for make up came out in the 1920's and 30's but plastic was the vessel for their make-up starting in 1940's because of the war, and metals were used only for the war effort. (Sterling Silver was excluded from that during the war.)
It is 1" across. It still has the makeup/ eye shadow on the inside.
