Presented here is an incredible Victorian Lava cameo pendant set in a sterling silver frame that was handmade specifically to the dimensions of this extraordinary carving. This Museum Worthy cameo is of a Bacchant or follower of Bacchus. Dionysus is the god of the grape harvest, winemaking and wine, of ritual madness and fertility. He is also known as Bacchus , the name adopted by the Romans. Followers typically wear a panther or leopard skin and carries a Thyrsus – a long stick or wand topped with a pine cone. The original Lava Cameo is Circa 1860s-1880s.
